Clothing, or Art

For years I gazed longingly at the magnificent socks on the front cover of Socks, Socks, Socks
but recently decided that if anyone else could knit these, why not me?

That delightful, out-of-the-box designer, one of my knitting heroines, Debbie New, developed a new system to chart her Swirl Knitting.

I dove in and realized the knitting was actually quick and loads of fun. The only tricky part was working the second sock in reverse. Crazy thing is, now they are finished and there's no way on earth I can wear them.
These socks cross the line from clothing or craft into the realm of Art.

I might wear them on my unworthy feet at a knitting retreat, but only with those feet up on a coffee table; definitely can't see walking in these, at least, not yet, even though they fit perfectly and are oh-so-comfy.
The yarn is Classic Elite Tapestry, a blend of 80% wool, 20% mohair, in worsted weight.

I'd love to wear them--but also arrayed before me on a coffee table for a brief few moments. Brilliant!
